Street Party

Better late than never, Sokak 222 decided to celebrate their new road (built 2 years ago) with a street party.

All the neighbourhood and some guests were invited

Ann (below) was the organiser, and she also kept the children amused, and the adults entertained with her antics.

And we must also mention the two master chefs, Mustapha and Bariş, (below), who kept us supplied with vast quantities of meat from the barbeque

Unusual event

Here's an unusual event (ie. it's never happened before) ... the Belediye (Council) sent some workers to clear the sides of the roads around the village. They told us (via sign language) that a tractor will be coming to cut down the rest ... should we hold our breath?

Surprise visitors

We had some surprise visitors this week, Vicki and Paul. Vicki came to stay with us 2 years ago when she finished her GCSEs. She managed to find her way to the house, not easy by any means. It was really nice to see them, we were so pleased they took the trouble. We took them over to Akbuk market on Friday, so that they could see something other than Altinkum.

They were staying in the Garden of Sun Hotel at third beach. This is the view from their room. Quite something!!

A day out

We took ourselves off to Kusadasi today as it was just too hot to do anything at home.
After we had visited Koçtaş (B&Q) and Kipa (Tesco) we found this little bay to cool off in

For those of you who know the area, believe it or not, this is down a little road almost opposite Kipa

Cooling off after a hard day's shopping
Temp in middle 40s

New Market

The new market opened today. It's very clean cool and shady, but we feel it has lost a lot of it's character. Many of the stalls from the old market are missing.

We couldn't find any fish, plants, gözleme, hardware or tools in this new market.

However, it was much cooler under the high roof, and when the temperatures are up in the mid thirties, that is a BIG plus

The quality of the vegetables is still excellent as you can see

But the whole thing was less of an experience

Apricot (she should be called lucky)

This poor little lady was an orphan

Fortunately we had a good idea where she might find a loving home.
Kevin and Annette have named her Apricot

Yo's 50th

It's all birthdays this month, and this was Yo's 50th

It was held at a little restaurant in Akbuk and she had invited around 50 guests

Here's Kevin showing his true colours as he attempts to wear a glamourous suspender belt. Sorry Kevin, think you're too butch to be a cross dresser.

Kevin's 50th Birthday

Poor Kevin and Annette lost their pet cat Felix in a road accident and really didn't feel like celebrating Kevin's birthday, which, as it was his 50th didn't really seem right, so we offered to take them to the Millipark (a National Park).

There are plenty of photo opportunities and some glorious scenery

There are also some beautiful secluded beaches

As well as some interesting wild-life

Just outside the Park is a little fishing village where we took some light refreshment

Kıyıkışlacık

It was Pat's birthday on 3rd June and to celebrate we went
down to Iassos and then back on ourselves along the coast to a small
bay called Kıyıkışlacık

We took a picnic with us and some wine and of course the
cake with candles and sparklers
